Congratulations to Duke Cancer Institute members Harvey Jay Cohen, MD, and Michael J. Kelley, MD, on receiving special awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, at this year’s ASCO Annual Meeting.
Cohen received the Jamie Von Roenn Excellence in Teaching and Mentorship Award for his dedication to advancing geriatric oncology and fostering the next generation of physicians. His research focuses on the biological understanding of aging and cancer, as well as the complexities of geriatric care. Cohen is the Walter Kempner Professor of Medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine and Emeritus Director of the Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development.
Kelley received the Humanitarian Award in recognition of his work expanding cancer care to veterans. As the Executive Director of the National Oncology Program for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), he helped launch the National TeleOncology Service, which has provided access to expert care to more than 27,000 veterans. Kelley is a medical oncologist with the DCI and a Professor of Medicine with the Duke University School of Medicine.
